Mohamed AL-Kaf, a final year BA Contemporary Media Practice student, developed I_EAT_DATA (1GB(4G) = 0.1kW = 367kJ = 21.1g) during his self-isolation in 2020. This project was heavily influenced by self-isolation. Having generally reduced social contact, this digital self-portrait attempts to blur the lines between physical and digital consumption when many could only consume. It takes physical consumption and converts it into a digital format, making this information everlasting. It also converts digital consumption data into a physical equivalent. This project attempts to convey the digital’s physical existence and the physical’s ability to be subsumed into the digital.
